Project Mexico - Tour 3
£0.00
Day 1 (31 March 2024) - Arrival in Mexico City
Arrive in vibrant Mexico City and transfer to your hotel for a three-night stay. When they arrived here Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes and his men were awestruck by the sight of the imposing temples of the Aztecs. Surrounded by some of the finest buildings of the colonial era, lay the remnants of one of the Aztecs’ principal monuments, the Templo Mayor. Its mysterious shapes stand as a haunting tribute to the pre-Hispanic civilization that flourished here long ago.
Days 2 and 3 (1 and 2 April 2024) - Enjoy vibrant Mexico City with optional excursions available
Enjoy accommodation in the financial and cultural district, steps away from the most important streets, Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Juarez. Optional visits will include Xochimilco floating gardens, Frida Kahlo's neighbourhood Coyoacan, Guadalupe Shrine and the pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan.
Days 4, 5 and 6 (3, 4 and 5 April 2024) - Fly to the golden beaches of Mazatlan
Fly north for the next three nights’ accommodation at a beachside hotel. Lively, romantic Mazatlan is the most northerly of all Mexico's major beach resorts. An agreeable climate and 20 kilometres of beaches make it extremely popular. In its Centro Histórico, 19th-century landmarks include the performance hall Teatro Ángela Peralta and the towering Immaculate Conception basilica.
Day 7 (6 April 2024) - Travel by coach today to Durango
A journey by coach today through the rolling coastal mountains of this region to Durango, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a colonial treasure and a destination that offers a wealth of culture, surrounded by waterfalls, green mountains, rivers, and desert. Be sure to take a cable car where you can enjoy an incomparable and spectacular view of the city centre.
Day 8 (7 April 2024) - Travel by coach to Torreon, our base for the eclipse
Continue the coach journey across Mexico’s wide central desert plain region for two nights in Torreon. Torreon lies along the Nazas River and is a city of contrasts in the middle of semi-desert. A relatively new city by Mexican standards, it lies at the heart of much of Mexico's industrial development.
Day 9 (8 April 2024) - Eclipse Day
Travel by coach to the eclipse centre line which is close to the longest duration point of the eclipse. Return to Torreon after the eclipse for overnight.
Day 10 (9 April 2024) - Fly to Mexico City for the last night of the tour
Today join a return flight to Mexico City and spend one last night in this vibrant city.
Day 11 (10 April 2024) - Join your return flight or perhaps extend your stay
Today is the last day of the tour. Join your return flight unless you have chosen to extend your stay.

You must have all visas (and vaccination) certificates that are necessary to enter or pass through any countries involved in Project Mexico / USA April 2024.

Do I need Travel Insurance?
It is advisable that you have Travel Insurance for any overseas travel arrangements and Astro Trails strongly urges you to purchase travel insurance before making your first deposit payment onto a project.
Travel Insurance policies are widely available and offer a range of financial protection for your trip. Health cover is obviously a necessity and we would also advise a policy which covers any loss in respect of non-refundable cancellation charges.
The policy costs and the extent of coverage vary considerably - a simple internet search will provide many alternatives and you are free to make your own choice.
Travel Health
You will be staying in good, clean, regulated hotels and there is no reason to expect greater health risks than a journey in your home country.
There are no specific health or inoculation requirement for entry into any of the countries visited, but different authorities advise a range of protection which is available. If you have an existing medical condition, you should contact your own medical practitioner for personal advice.
A useful general health advice website for travellers is the World Health Organisation and there are also advice sites in individual countries.

Why book with Astro Trails?
Astro Trails is the latest version of a project which started in 1973 when Transolar Travel, a small UK travel agency, chartered a cruise ship to take members of the British Astronomical Association and their friends to observe a total solar eclipse off the coast of West Africa. David McGee, the owner of Transolar went on to run projects to follow the Apollo spaceflight launches from Florida, and from 1980 his brother Brian McGee took over responsibility for continuing the organisation of solar eclipse tours and he is still involved in the operation to this day.
